Kelsey & Thomas’ Wedding

Friday, January 15th, 2010

I was so excited to get to meet Kelsey and Thomas months before their wedding. Jane had spent a lot of time talking with Kelsey’s mother, Nancy, and she had become like a friend. I knew Kelsey had to be a great person with such a sweet mother! And I was right. This fantastic couple was so fun, so carefree, and truly happy! The day was perfect in every way and I’m excited to share these images with you. The gorgeous wedding took place at the lovely Sanderling Resort and Spa in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Sugar Snap Events worked their magic, like always, and put together a fabulous event. I really love working with them because they are so attentive to every detail (and fun to be around too!). Holiday House did a great job with the flowers- so soft and beautiful. I can’t wait to hear about all the new things in Kelsey and Thomas’ life as the years go by.

Susannah & Will

Saturday, January 9th, 2010

December 19th was a much anticipated wedding as the giant snow storm approached the east coast Friday at rush hour. Fortunately, being a skier and lover of snow, I made it through the back roads of Virginia to have the privilege of photographing Susannah & Will’s wedding. What an amazing atmosphere the snow created for the last event of 2009!

Maple Syrup & Virginia Living

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

When most people think about maple syrup, they may not be thinking about Virginia. Being a native to this lovely state, I’m happy to say that Highland County, Virginia is one of the most southern locations that maple syrup is made in North America. Believe it or not, Highland County has a major Maple Syrup Festival two weekends each March to celebrate this very unique attribute to the state of Virginia. Now you might catch an article by Deborah Huso in Virginia Living Magazine this month on the Maple syrup festival in Highland County but take a look at the following images, which really show the fun that can be had during this annual event.

I love the sign stating the obvious. Also shown is a stack of buckwheat pancakes from the Bolar Ruritan Club. It’s all-you-can-eat at these places so bring your appetite.

Here at Rexrode Farm, we get a closer view of some of the old methods of gathering sap. The days of “the old bucket around the trees” are gone but it was cool that Rexrode Farm left some out to see.

The second weekend features the Hi-Horse Cloggers in downtown Monterey. If you have never experienced clogging, this is a must see!

All this dancing, eating and festivities help celebrate the sap that flows from a tree. How awesome is that?
