Brandi & Adam

I LOVE Brandi’s style! She and Adam planned a winter wedding, complete with fur, snowflakes, winter lights, and brooch bouquets (that were beautiful!). The ceremony and reception took place in Virginia Beach and had so many unique details that really celebrated the season. I loved the seafoam blue that accented the day and the elegant cupcakes that truly spoke of this couple’s great style. Cudos to Brandi, who made sure her ceremony was scheduled at a time that would allow her to maximize the use of daylight. This was especially helpful for a winter wedding because the days are so short. The result was lots of fun couple images that are sure to be cherished. Jane and I love you guys and pray that your life will be FULL of great things, lots of love, and treasured memories!!

What Did 2011 Look Like?

Oh, what a year! While I enjoyed the many weddings I photographed this year, and loved getting to know some amazing clients in the process, there were lots of fun creative opportunities for me in other areas of photography. I want to take a moment and recap some of those experiences here for you to share. This is not a complete look at my year, but I hope you will catch a glimpse of a bit of the world that I encountered in 2011.

For me, the visual memory of 2011 started in Utah on a photo safari. I’m looking forward to my upcoming west coast trip in January with expectation at the beauty that lies ahead of me. (I had to throw in a few of my longtime friend and safari companion, Steve).

My next stop was in southern central Virginia for a Virginia Living Magazine food feature. Lamb was the dish of choice and I experienced the beauty of the farm first hand. The chef did a fantastic job, as you will see from the mouth-watering dishes. Those folks put a lot of love into all they are doing with those lambs.

I was then off to visit a neighbor named Billy Wagner, former Atlanta Braves closer and seven-time all star, who was featured in a magazine. Having four children of my own, I enjoyed how this baseball icon loved the simplicity of being at home with his children and learned about his desire to give kids a hope with the Second Chance Learning Center.

You may not know this, but I am quite an outdoor adventurer. I LOVE skiing, mountain biking, and kayaking (well, anything that involves being outside really). I couldn’t resist catching some night time images of a particularly interesting sport – land boarding.

Yum, yum.. but I didn’t actually taste any food on this photo shoot (Jane is still trying to figure that one out!). Virginia Living Magazine featured down home diners throughout the state of Virginia, so my quest took me to lots of different places that shared one thing in common- good, home cooked food.

It was a year of LOTS of fishing (did I mention I like to be outside?).

It was a year of working.

Why I LOVE Charlottesville and call it home.

It was a year of running.

It was a year of shopping.

It was a year of vacationing in the mountains.

It was a year of vacationing at resorts.

It was a year of having fun with kids.

It was a year of looking forward to the carefree life of retirement!

Christie & Peter

Jane and I had a great time with Christie and Peter recently at The Homestead Resort. We loved their fantastic style and enjoy that they really appreciate great photography as art. Christie’s stationary replicated the famous characteristic color scheme of The Homestead and the florals by Gillespie’s Flowers spoke elegance and simplicity. We thought the cake by Short and Sweet Bakery was especially cute and unique, much like this wonderful couple. We are looking forward to hearing more about what is happening in your lives in the years to come!

Buchingham Slate

I just love these images from an editorial assignment I did a few years ago. Buchingham Slate, located in Virginia, was kind enough to let me have total access to the facility that day which enabled me to capture these spectacular images. Many thanks Buchingham Slate!
